Something we do get asked a fair bit at Wheelspin Models is how to add LED light kits to their cars, and if they are hard to setup. There are a number of ways you can do this, some more complex and involving than others, however a good priced LED light kit like the various kits Killerbody make are a great balance of ease of use and value for money. In this article I will show how to get the LED lights set up with one of their kits.

What you get in the kit is a small control box, your LED lights your servo and ESC wiring and also some instructions

The great thing killerbody have done with the LED lights is the wiring for each set of lights are colour co-ordinated to help now which wires are for which slot they must be plugged into in the control box.

When the wires are all separated out the packaging they are very easy to work out which ones are which. If you wanted to you could always put a tag on them by the plug so you know when you are plugging them into the control box. The diagram below shows how to plug your LED’s in which socket of the control box

The function of the lights are as below:

LED 1 (forward light, 4 white lights) will light up when received forward signal

LED 2 (backward light, 4 red lights) will light up dimly when received signal, and will light up when received backward signal

LED 3 (left turn lights, 2 yellow lights) will flash when received left turn signal

LED 4 (right turn lights, 2 yellow lights) will flash when received right turn signal

LED 5 (roof bar lights, 6 white lights) will light up when power connected

By following the above diagram it is pretty straight forward to know which LED light’s need to plugged into the LED jack ports. When the have been plugged in, you plug your servo received and esc receiver leads into the 2 ports at the bottom of the control box. Once that is done the lights should look like below:

All that is needed to do is push the LED lights into the light buckets on your body shell, and also secure the control box on the car. Using some double sided servo tape would be a good choice for securing the control box to the car.
