Tamiya TT-02 vs Types S with hop-ups

Hey guys, so I went and bought another TT-02 but this time a nicely modified one - the Type S. It is an absolute bargain considering it is only £15 more than my Escort Cosworth kit, and has nearly £100 worth of upgrades over the standard TT-02.

What you get in the box essentially, is a stock car still. However this one has a large goodie bag containing proper lower arms, full metal turnbuckles, accurate steering set, and is set up with toe in on the rear and toe out on the front.

Along with this we get full ball bearings as standard, and oil filled shocks. I won’t bore you with another build tutorial, but you can see the differences from the following pictures.

I will be messing with the gearing more still, as there is still so much more to get out of these cars when they are brushless powered.

Yeah Racing oil filled differentials with 5000cst oil. I am experimenting with what works best and may well change these now they are adjustable.

Added aluminium prop and front/rear prop holders.

Crazy gearing for extreme speed runs - I decided against this spur for now, as I want to get the car running right first.

Aftermarket aluminium CVD’s

Front end toe out clearly noticeable.

These are not the stock TT-02 type S shocks. They are the Fastrax upgraded oil filled ones. I wanted these because they are aluminium and are great quality. The Type S shocks will make a nice addition to my stock TT-02 to stop it bouncing around.

Addition of a very fast low profile Savox servo and the build is really coming along. Prizes if you can spot another nice little optional extra part. The 4800kv motor retains its place and is fine to be run on 2s or 3s. Now to add the rest of the electronics.

The graphite battery bar and top deck add a nice bit of race-car look to the chassis. It also provides a perfect spot to tie the wires nicely and neatly, and strap the GPS metre on board for future speed runs.

To finish off I added the optional extra Tamiya aluminium steering upgrade for the TT-02 Type S chassis, and now I’m done adding nice shiny blue bits and I think the kit looks fantastic. I just hope I can get it driving nicely and more stable than its predecessor at speed.

The quality and fun of the build was even better than the stock kit, and for £15 more + hop ups I really feel like it is still worth every penny.

A very nice looking kit I think you will agree - even its little brother has nicked some left over upgraded parts. I also treated it to a faster brushed setup.
