Rich's Favourite Car Set Up

This article is just really a summary for the cars I have bought so far during my time at Wheelspin.

I have thoroughly enjoyed building them and using them. There have been a few errors made, and a few crashed along the way as you will see. I have swapped and messed around with various different gear ratios, motors, ESC’s, tyres etc, but I am going to tell you my favourite setup of all and why.

Let me start by saying that following on from the previous article - speed is not everything! The Schumacher Mission on 3s and 4wd was crazy fast but…

I ran out of talent!

Truth be told, the motor was over geared as the acceleration was pretty poor compared to how it was before and despite the fast it is much more stable than my previous cars, the honest answer is that it was still shaky at high speed resulting in me binning it at well over 50mph. The most annoying thing is that I didn’t even have the timing gear on the car at the time as it was literally the first time out with it.

Cracked chassis plate and rear bulkhead from a direct hit to a bollard followed by a fast spin into a brick wall. I’m actually very impressed with how it took it.

So after this happened:

…I now have a working car again. I can share this insight with you:

Unless you are a very good driver, then sending your car to the moon will usually result in a massive crash. Even before the crash happened on about the 6th pass, I found it to be twitchy and unpredictable. This completely took away the fun factor.

You may notice that the car had the brushed 10x2 motor and ESC put back in. It also was geared back down again. I’ve deliberately made it slower again as it now handles perfectly and can make full use of the 4wd system. It isn’t as quick as before but much more importantly I have my fun car back again but with the added acceleration from 4wd. I would guess it is around 45-50mph.

Here is the spec:

Schumacher Mission FT + 4wd conversion kit

LRP V10 10x2 brushed motor

NHX Optimum ESC (Ebay buy for unlimited brushed motors)

85t spur + 25t pinion

7.4 2s shorty lipo

Moral of the story: power isn’t everything!
