The Mini-Z. A model that seems to have a very niche following and something I have recently decided to explore due to the amazing amounts of different bodies and upgrades available. And for my first upgrade I decided to try the Kyosho X-Speed upgrade motor to see if it makes a difference over the stock motor.

For this motor swap you only need a basic ( Small ) phillips screwdriver, the first step is to remove the plastic motor strap that is pictured below. This plastic holder will simply clip away from the chassis.

Next you will need to remove the two screws that hold the motor wires on to the ESC unit, again this is pictured below.

Now these screws are removed and the motor holder is removed you should be able to tap the chassis on your hand and the motor will start to slide out of the chassis. Do not be tempted to use a flat head screwdriver to try and force it out as this may result in damage to the chassis and/or motor.

Once you have the motor out you need to remove the pinion gear from the stock motor and refit it to the upgrade motor. The pinion gear is a simple push fit so simply needs a gentle pull to remove it from the motor shaft. As it is only plastic please be careful and do not use pliers or other tools to remove this pinion.

The new motor will need to be slotted on to the motor mount and then pushed back into its housing in the chassis, just be sure to feed your motor wires back through the slot in the chassis first. You do not need to worry about the motor mesh as it is fixed so simply push the motor in all the way and re-attach the motor clip on the bottom to hold the motor in position.

Once this is done then you will need to attach the motor wire on the correct terminals ( + / - ) using the previously removed screws. Once this is done you are ready to power it up and continue running.

I hope this How To article helped, as always you do find that you are struggling then please feel free to get in touch with one of our team and we will try and point you in the right direction!
