Hobao Hyper TT first outing and review

It was always going to be difficult picking the next model after the Roval MT10, I had and still have so much fun with that model however I wanted to go a slightly different route this time around. As you may know this will be my first time owning a Hobao model so I was excited and ready to hit the dirt as soon as this was built!

Both the Mt10 and The Hobao TT looking clean before a session at our regular bashing spot!

The first thing you will likely notice is I have changed the wheels and tyres from the standard kit wheels, " but why " I hear you ask. The answer is simple, the stock tires are a mini pin style tire and are not suitable for the rough and rugged terrain of cannock chase, so I opted for the following wheel and tire combo.

HPI Yokohama Geolander MT Tires - HPI-4456

Traxxas Lite dished wheels 2.2" - TRX1972

This combo had the benefit of chunkier off road tires that gave me a bit more ground clearance plus a more aggressive tread to suit the rough terrain.

It was time to let it rip!

So as you know I am running a robotronics razer ten 3000kv brushless system with a 17T pinion gear, this setup can pull 40MPH on a flat surface and I can assure you it does not need to be any quicker than that if you are running off road. This little pocket rocket can out accelerate a HPI savage running 6s. It is so planted, you gun it and it fires off leaving a rooster tail of dust behind it! The surface we are on is very rough so I definitely made the right choice not running the stock wheels and tires!

It Jumps so well!

It jumps well, like really well! Again this is not a purpose built track, this is cannock chase so all the mounds and jumps are rough with no down ramps and the TT loved it! Considering its small size it soaked up the bumps and lumps really well.

Try not to land like this! This is not good for the rear wing :(

It looks like the wing to a real big hit in the picture above however the only damage it suffered was a few scuff marks!

So, What's my verdict on the Hobao Hyper TT?

I love it! I think that considering the cost which is comparable to most tamiya kits ( let that sink in for a sec ) it offers superb value for money, full aluminium chassis and fully adjustable like a race chassis however durable and ready to bash around! What is not to like? I would go as far as saying I like this over the MT10 which as a lot of you know is my favourite truck. I would certainly say that this is worth owning, particularly if you happen to have a spare brushless system knocking around.

Franks Rating - 9/10
