The Ford Escort MK2 is one of the most popular and well loved cars ever made. For Tamiya to make an RC version, it has certainly gone down well with RC rally enthusiasts. So what do you get in the box for your money? Well, let's find out.

Opening the box

The first thing you’ll notice when you open the box is the pre-painted body. It’s pre painted in white, and also has a smoked tint to the windows. While the paint finish looks good, there are a couple of imperfections with the paint finish itself, so personally I would rather pay a little less and have a clear body to paint in what colour I want, rather than be forced to purchase a separate clear body to do a body that isn’t white. Also on the top of the body is the one set of plastic parts which contains your front bumper, wing mirrors, spot light mounts and also the light buckets.

What else is in the box?

When you take everything out of the box, it includes all the items in the image above. As well as your body and plastic set as previously mentioned,  you have your parts to get your kit all built. This includes the plastic MF-01 chassis which has the motor located towards the rear of the chassis. The great thing with the MF-01 chassis is you can adjust the wheelbase of the chassis to 3 different wheelbase, so should give you some more choice on other M chassis bodies to fit on this chassis, if you wanted to change the body at a later date. As well as the plastic parts bags, you also have your rubber tyres in their own little pack which will fit to the blue plastic, classic minilite style wheels. There is also the Carrson ESC uncluded which is a good entry level ESC.

The image above shows the parts bags you get with your kit.

As well as your manual, you also get your stickers which features the livery of Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz from the 1979 Monte Carlo Rally. The only thing I will say is the stickers have to be cut out as they aren’t pre cut which is a bit of a pain, so make sure you get some good scissors or craft knife to cut them well.

The other items that would be required to get your Tamiya MF-01X MK2 Escort ready to go, for some sideways rally action are listed below:
