UDI 1:16 rally Lancia brushless review

The UDIRC range of 1/16 RC cars are incredible little cars for the money. I have just gone with the UDIRC Rally L, for some sideways rally car fun.

You can buy the UDIRC 1/16 cars in both brushed or brushless. I went for the brushless version which is cracking value for less than £100. So what is it like to own and use?

The car comes ready to run so includes everything (bar a pack of 4 AA batteries for your transmitter) you need to go and get running out the box. It comes all neatly packaged and includes your usual instructions, transmitter, USB charger and a small bag with some basic tools. What I do like with these cars is that UDI also includes a set of drift wheels and tyres in case you want to change the grippy road tyres that are already on the car to get even more sideways fun. For the price, I think UDI should be applauded for this, as they are just shy of £10 to buy a set separately if you wanted to, so to include a set in the box is a great move by UDI and something the bigger manufacturers should look at doing with their cars.

After a couple of hours charging the little 2 cell lipo battery we got the car out the car park to give it some stick and see what this car can do.

The car has 3 settings on the transmitter for 3 different speeds. The packaging for the car says it will do 30mph plus, however after doing some speed runs, the fastest it did was 24mph. I won’t lie, anything other than the third setting is a bit disappointing, and I would only use the first two settings if I had a kid using it. The third setting really does show the car off and while it doesn’t reach the speeds mentioned on the box, 24mph for a RC car at 1/16 scale is really impressive and quick enough to be honest.

I have had quite a bit of fun with this car. For less than £100 it really does represent excellent value for money, especially when UDI also includes an additional set of drift wheels and tyres. What other manufacturer has added an additional set of wheels and tyres with their car?

I also own a HPI micro RS4, which is quite a fair bit more money than the UDIRC Rally L brushless car. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the UDIRC over the HPI to everyone, it really is a day and night difference between them both. You have so much better value for money with the UDI and it is quicker and better performing than the micro RS4 too.

If you are after a sub £100 RC car that you can go and have some fun on a local car park and is quick enough to keep you interested, then the UDIRC range of brushless drift and rally cars are an option you won’t go wrong with!
