FTX SURGE 1/12 BRUSHED BUGGY READY-TO-RUN (GREEN)

The SURGE is the latest addition to the entry level range of r/c vehicles from FTX. With four different models centred around a shaft driven 4wd chassis platform, there is a SURGE for every off road r/c nut.

Packed with scale detailing, the FTX Surge Dune Buggy is modeled around the classic Californian style sand racers that blast through the SoCal deserts.  It’s 1/12th scale sizing makes it a perfect entry-level r/c model.

Factory pre-assembled, the Surge buggy just requires you to charge the Li-Ion battery and add some AA batteries for the 2.4ghz radio for you to be ready for the start line. A ball bearing supported, shaft driven 4wd transmission with geared differentials provides great drive-ability on most surfaces, and while the high quality aluminium oil filled shock absorbers soak up the bumps and jumps.

Battery access is a simple affair via the hinged bottom loading battery cover, with the electronic speed control and brushed motor providing excellent scale speed.  The buggy is finished off with a scale looking moulded roll cage and body panels, plus scale style wheels and tyres for that authentic single seater dune buggy look.

Now you can have an entry-level model that looks the part all in one package.

With a sub £100 price, the SURGE range is ideal for first time r/c fans who want more than just a toy grade model. Each model features some superb detailing and custom finshed bodyshells. Power and control is provided by a 2.4ghz radio system and electronic speed control, while a Li-Ion battery powers the brushed motor for excellent scale speed. In addition the ball bearing supported, shaft driven 4wd system and metal oil filled shock absorbers are something not seen on similar vehicles within this price bracket.

How fast does it go?

Top speed isn't quoted but we'd estimate around 25mph or so.

Strange question for you.. Say I wanted to race a Kyosho DBX VE2 with a few FTX surge cars, without it being silly what motor would I need to downgrade to in the Kyosho? It's not serious racing (mixing 1:12 with 1:10) but I just want a reasonably level playing field, in the racing. Best Regards Leo
Asked by Leo on 25th April 2018

Hmm, bit hard to say really as there's a lot of variables.... If you were just looking to restrict the speed of the DBX you would be better popping a lump of blu-tack behind the trigger, rather than spending good money on making it slower...?
