DJI have announced the release of S900 Hexacopter  - a medium lift platform, designed specifically for pilots interested in achieving unmatched professional results in aerial photography and film making. This lightweight, versatile RC drone combines amazing power with precision and stability.

DJI S900 comes packed in many improved features, which were tried and tested in the earlier models, such as DJI S1000: retractable landing gear, folding frame arms and folding propellers, which make storing and transporting of this drone easy and convenient. Just as S1000, it has been built entirely from carbon fibre, making the whole platform very lightweight at 3.3 kg and maximum take-off weight is 8.2kg. Maximum hover time in DJI tests was reported to be 18 minutes with 6s 12000 mAh battery and take-off weight of 6.8 kg

Another remarkable feature of this RC drone is the powerful combination of 4114 motors and 40 Amp electronic speed controllers (ESC), achieving the fastest response time available in this type of drone. When used with the recommended 1552 folding propellers, this system provides 2.5 kg’s of thrust. Robust S900’s V type mixer design produces impressive propulsion while minimizing power requirements and offers 15 kg maximum thrust.

S900 is suitable for a wide range of medium weight camera options including Sony Nex 7 or Panasonic GH4 and DJI Zenmuse gimbals including DJI Zenmuse Z15 and DJI Zenmuse GH3. Low gimbal mounting bracket allows for greater freedom of choice of shooting angles and camera positioning. Damper system used with the gimbal mount bracket reduces vibrations and stabilizes the image.

For optimal results in terms of stability, the S900 should be used with DJI flight controllers like the A2. The upper central board is removable and allows for easy installation of elements as DJI Lightbridge or DJI IMU and of course, the S900 is fully compatible with DJI hardware and firmware. Innovative frame arms with an 8° inversion and a 3° inclination make this UAV even more stable when pitching, rolling or hovering, while the unique and brand new power distribution system provides extended flight time without compromising on the quality of the footage.
