As a young boy, Anakin Skywalker was rescued from life as a slave on Tatooine by the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who believed the boy to be the "Chosen One" of prophecy who would bring balance to the Force. Due to Qui-Gon's untimely death, Anakin was trained in the ways of the Jedi by Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Later turned to the Dark Side of the force by the machinations of Chancellor Palpatine, who was secretly the evil Darth Sidious, Anakin Skywalker took on the name of Darth Vader, serving at Sidious's side until he ultimately turned on Sidious in order to save his son, Luke Skywalker.
